  3. Prohibited Behaviors
  4. Enforcement
  5. Site Policies

At DoraHacks, we are committed to fostering a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for all users. This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behavior we expect from all participants on our platform and the consequences for violating these standards.

Ethos, Ethics and Mission: For Hackers and the Hacker Movement

Our Ethos

At the heart of the Hacker Movement lies a shared perspective on how to approach the world and solve problems. Eric S. Raymond, in his essay "How to Become a Hacker", distilled this mindset into five key principles. These ideas reflect the inner drive, creativity, and ethical spirit of hackers everywhere.

  1. The world is full of fascinating problems waiting to be solved.

  2. No problem should ever have to be solved twice.

  3. Boredom and drudgery are evil.

  4. Freedom is good.

  5. Attitude is no substitute for competence.

The Hacker Ethics

We believe in the Hacker Ethics as a guiding philosophy for creativity, collaboration, and positive change. As Steven Levy summarized in Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution, and Richard Stallman championed through the Free Software Movement, the Hacker Ethic revolves around these core values:

  • Sharing: Knowledge is a gift—let’s share it freely to empower others.
  • Openness: Transparency fosters trust, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Decentralization: Power belongs in the hands of many, not the few.
  • Free Access to Tools and Knowledge: Everyone deserves the chance to learn, create, and innovate.
  • World Improvement: Technology should solve problems, uplift communities, and make the world a better place.

We commit to fostering this ethos in all the work we do. Hackers are not just builders of technology; they are builders of a better tomorrow.

Our Mission: Be the Best Platform for Funding the Hacker Movement

At DoraHacks, to grow the global hacker community, advocate the hacker ethos and ethics, and fund the hacker movement in the long-term, we built this platform dorahacks.io. Hackers are the architects of the future, and the mission of dorahacks.io is to be the infrastructure for hackers, which is ever-evolving with the non-stop hacker movement.

  1. Build a global community for hackers

We are building a global community where hackers can connect, share knowledge, and collaborate on projects that matter. Though BUIDL, Idea, Hacker Profile, Message and other features, hackers from all around the world can share what they're working on, and learn from others' works. Meanwhile, they can team up to build exciting things and solve some problems for the world. If tangible projects can be delivered, they can proceed to join hackathons/grants to get funded, which will further fuel their work.

  1. Create opportunities through Hackathons and Grants

We believe that creativity thrives when people have the right tools, challenges, and support, therefore we work with top tier companies to provide funding to hackers via hackathons and grants. Sometimes, DoraHacks is also one of the funders.

Hackathon and Grant are the two most popular functions on dorahacks.io. While hackers can potentially get funded by joining a hackathon/grant, funders or hacker community all over the world can also use this platform to launch their own hackathons and grants.

  1. Support hackers and hacker communities at every stage of their journey

Providing comprehensive support that adapts to hackers' needs as they grow and evolve is always the core of our commitments. Whether a hacker can deliver a startup-level project, a prototype, a research paper, or just an idea, dorahacks.io has the right place to support it. We accompany hackers on their journey, witnessing the birth of numerous tech startups from a mere idea or demo.

And as we joint hands with our partners, DoraHacks is doing its best to provide sustainable funding and flexible resources for the lifetime of talented hackers and ground-breaking projects. AEZ Quadratic Grant and Aptos Grant DAO are the two highlighted programs in our commitment to funding the hacker movement in the long term.
